Hey Mint users. We know you’re in the market for a new budgeting app. And we know there are plenty of options out there—so how do you pick? Let’s talk through a comparison of Mint vs. EveryDollar.

What Is Mint?

Mint was one of the most popular budgeting apps out there for years. A part of the Intuit family, they were related to TurboTax, QuickBooks, Credit Karma and Mailchimp.

But we keep using the past tense with those verbs. That’s because in the fall of 2023, Mint announced they were shutting down on March 23, 2024.

What’s next? Mint’s offering current budgeters (all four million of them) the opportunity to move their data over to Credit Karma—but Credit Karma doesn’t offer budgeting. So, while you’ll have a spot to see your financial accounts and transactions in one place, you won’t have an actual budgeting tool.

If this is you, we feel for you. Seriously. We love budgeting and budgets. The thought of losing the app you’ve used to create and meet your money goals over the years . . . it more than sucks.

First of all, please don’t stop budgeting. You still have some awesome options! But first, let’s get a rundown the features you were used to (so we can stack them next to an alternative to Mint in a minute).

What Is EveryDollar?

Ramsey Solutions launched the free and premium versions of EveryDollar in 2015 to help people live out the advice they heard on The Ramsey Show shared over and over again—create and live by a zero-based budget.

EveryDollar’s features are designed to help you (the budgeter):

  • Create a custom budget that fits your life, money goals and priorities
  • Know what’s left to spend in each category (so you never overspend)

In the first two months of budgeting with the free version of EveryDollar, the average active user finds an extra $790 they were spending without even knowing it!

Why Is EveryDollar the Best Mint Alternative?

From Rocket Money to Monarch to Simplifi—the list of possible budgeting apps feels nearly endless.

Start budgeting with EveryDollar today!

And yeah, we built EveryDollar. And yeah, we’re going to tell you it’s the way to go. What kind of company would we be if we didn’t believe in our own product?

Here’s the deal: If you’re used to budgeting for free, EveryDollar’s got a fantastic free option. Yes, there are other free budgeting apps out there, but their customization is limited. (Goodbudget, for example, has a cap on how many budget categories you can enter in their free version.)

And if you decide to upgrade to the premium features, EveryDollar’s paid version costs less annually than YNAB.

If you’d like to get your research on, you can stack them all side-by-side, run cost comparisons, and compare feature after feature. Once you’re ready to decide, we’d honestly be honored if you come budget with us!

We want to say it again: It sucks that you’re having to hop back in the market for a budgeting app, especially if you’ve been with Mint for a while. But don’t let this setback get between you and all that progress you made by budgeting.

To help you keep budgeting your best, we’re offering Mint users two free months of the premium version of EveryDollar so you can start with our top features right way. Let’s do this. Together.
